Batch 1 kickstarted Benromach's Cask Strength series and for a long time remained one of the biggest malts on the market. The 29 first-fill casks making up Batch 4 promise more sherry, more smoke as well as spices galore combined with an oily mouthfeel. These vintage dated releases are also intended to offer subtle variations on the distillery profile reflecting the cask selections from the year of distillation. Aged for over ten years and bottled at natural cask strength of 57.2% ABV, collectors will note that this is the first vintage to be released in the new bottle and label design. The red cap symbolises the distillery’s iconic chimney. Non chill filtered.

Notes from the distillery... Dark forest fruits and zesty orange with black pepper, soft smoke and red berries.

Other reviews... Nose: oak spice from the sherry casks (clove, black pepper, cinnamon) coupled with orange peels and growing hints of dark chocolate. Hints of linseed oil and toasted nuts, as well as ashy notes and forest floor. Mouth: powerful of course, but very rich. There’s a hint of peppery malt, poached pears, as well as plums and blackcurrants. Cinnamon and clove again. Brown sugar. Earthy peat mixes nicely with the peppery spirit, mixing with orange peel, ash and hints of oak char. Finish: long, still quite peppery, with echoes of red fruits and sweet smoke.
