2005 Cooper's Choice Tomintoul 13 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

    Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLAND
    $160. 00 Bottle
    $1920.00 Dozen
    ABV: 55.5%
Surprisingly buxom for a distillery nicknamed "The Gentle Dram".

Tasting note: The kind of sherry isn't stated on the label, but the profile suggests a drier style or a second fill cask. Fumey alcohol gives way to aromas of cooking chocolate and spice, with air contact accenting sweet malt and dried fig. It's as big and booming a Tomintoul as you're likely to find: dense, oily barley through the sweet mid-palate recedes as spices pick up the finish. Hints of green banana and cocoa through the aftertaste. Good balance without dilution. Gets better the longer you stay with it. 55.5% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Notes from the bottlers... Nose: tropical fruit with honey and sherry aromas. Palate: stewed fruit with fudge, spicy oak aromas and old leather. A very creamy Tomintoul with later on more sherry influence and hint of furniture wax. Finish: long and slightly drying.
