There's not a lot of Mortlach around nowadays, and certainly not at prices like this.
Current owners, Diageo, used to release around 800 cases of a 16 Year Old annually under their Flora & Fauna label (even this is now discontinued). It retailed for about $160.00 and was bottled at 43%. The next closest thing to "official bottlings" of Mortlach have been the licensed releases by Gordon & Macphail. Otherwise, output is reserved for Diageo's blends, such as Johnnie Walker.

This special direct import indie release is a terrific opportunity to secure this sought after Speyside malt. Distilled in 2002 and bottled in 2015 after 13 years maturation in hogsheads of undisclosed provenance.

Tasting notes: Very pale straw colour. Almost waterlike. Pure, sweet scents of short bread and dry grass. Richer and deeper with brief aeration, emphasising the malt with granita biscuit, sponge cake, vanilla and a grassy-fresh overlay. Crisp and dry biscuit-like in the mouth with a hint of grassiness / citrus zest and a medium long aftertaste. Rounds off with some tangy acidity on the finish. A drier, leaner Mortlach that grows on you. Would make a fine aperitif. Natural colour. 43%Alc./Vol.
