Tasting note: [Cask 1972-268] A rare opportunity to secure one of the oldest age statements of Port Charlotte ever released. The distillery re-opened in May 2001 and this was distilled in mid 2001. Brilliant gold. Seduces from the first sniff - barley sugar, rum-soaked pipe tobacco and aromas of light molasses cake alternate with peppermint and peat. A melt-in-your-mouth malt: Concentrated and deliciously buttery at mid palate, dovetailing into sooty peat, butter menthol lozenge and late beeswax; genteel spices add depth and vitality. Incredibly well balanced, the peat never quite overwhelms. Great stuff. Also setting this apart is that it was matured in a fresh rum cask, making it all the more unusual. 55.6% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered 193 bottles.
