1997 Lady of the Glen Bowmore Single Cask #9715 23 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Tasting note: Bowmore is Islay’s oldest distillery and home to the famous 'Vaults' warehouse. This medium peated expression has been matured in a refill sherry cask. Deep gold. A lovely delicacy to the nose which is immediately peaty, then more saline, dried-herb like, developing whiffs of Turkish Delight and 'lady's handbag'. Low-key smoke adds complexity but takes back seat. Delicate, like almost no other Islay can be; vaguely fruity, saline... a gentle wave of maritime peat rolls over the barley, just enough to remind you it's Islay. Tactile to finish. Rosewater and a touch of lavender, herbal teas, geranium(?) before the dry and faintly phenolic fade. Complex and fascinating Bowmore that will also polarise fans of this distillery. Distilled 7th of May 1997 and bottled late 2020 from a tiny outturn of 137 bottles. 42.4% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
