1995 Tobermory 25 Year Old Manzanilla Matured Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml) - Distillery Exclusive Bottling
Note: Product has come from a private collection and as such may have some minor scuffing/scratches/handling marks. Actual product pictured.
The only operational distillery on the Isle of Mull, Tobermory splits its yearly production between unpeated — Tobermory Single Malt — and peated whisky, which it brands under the Ledaig label. This particular expression is a departure from the core range. Fourteen years maturing in ex-Bourbon barrels was followed by a further 11 years in Manzanilla Sherry Casks. The latter are said to contribute a little saltiness, which complements Tober's island character. Anticipate aromas and flavours of sweet orange, white grape, clove oil and lingering brine. Distillery Exclusive.
Other reviews... Strong manzanila notes and spicy notes that remind me a little of balsamic vinegar. A little cherry. Over time, I also have a little bit of the almond kernels here. With even more time, I find light sulfur notes like lighting a match. The vanilla and sweetness of the bourbon cask is still noticeable. A wonderful mixture of many different aromas, but so dense and complex that I find it difficult to grasp them individually. With water, the cherry and spice combine beautifully. Almost soft with cherry and spicy and dry oak. With water, the cherry gets the upper hand. - whiskybase.com
