Tasting note: Originally established in 1810 and revived in 1963, the Jura distillery is known for its atypical, lighter island style with just a hint of smoke. Gregor Hannah considers himself incredibly fortunate to have acquired this rare 28 year old Bourbon matured expression, and just in the nick of time considering its low ABV. Distilled on the 20th of March 1992, two decades have softened the bouquet of an already soft distillate. Very different from mainstream Jura (which is the whole point of these bottlings), it offers sultry scents of gooseberries, semi ripe strawberry, dried mango as well as hints of cut grass and menthol rub. Just over 40%, yet still rallies a slow motion flavour-wave that recalls a few venerable Islays (think very old Bowmore). It's an arrangement that's almost impossible to describe: Little to no maritime influence, the peat instead taking on a vaguely herbal aspect; the malt comes through with dried mango with a touch of rolling tobacco, while off on the horizon there's a faint puff of smoke. By the finish, the tannins have been reduced to ash, the fruity remnants rebounding over several minutes. In short, a sunset malt with some hauntingly beautiful moments. 183 bottles. 41.2% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Notes from Gregor Hannah... On the Nose: Spring gorse bushes, Madeira cake and fresh cut grass. On the Palate: Poached pears and apple turnover. Yoghurt coated raisins and a chocolate biscuit character. Finish: Medium and warming with notes of tobacco, developing to mint.
