This year's Caol Ila Special Release was limited to 3,276 bottles globally. It's the oldest official distillery bottling to date. While the 25 year old has been readily available, to find anything significantly older you'd have to seek out indie expressions. Diageo's 2018 edition is from refill American oak hogsheads and refill ex-sherry European oak butts. Despite its considerable age it's retained a remarkably high ABV. Clean and pristine in texture with vibrant floral, green apple, citrus and juniper aromas, it's very delicate with great tension and drive. Very special. Expect serious complexity. Our allocation is next to nothing.

Other reviews... A rare veteran bottling from Caol Ila, and the oldest of the 2018 Special Releases, this was aged in refill American oak hogsheads and refill European oak butts. The nose is fragrant and inviting, with dried fruit, ginger, and beach bonfire. Vibrant tropical fruit on the palate, with cinnamon and developing brine-sodden peat. Bold fruit flavors along with white pepper and soft peat remain in the lengthy finish. Collectible. 58.1% Alc./Vol. 93 points
