Pluscarden is actually a distillery (otherwise known as Miltonduff) situated in the Pluscarden Glen near Pluscarden abbey, close to Elgin in Scotland. Earlier, Miltonduff was operating at the same location under another name: "Mosstowie", which was closed in 1981. At that time, the spirit was made with Lomond stills, described as "…a variant of the pot still developed in 1955, which makes it possible to produce stronger, oilier whiskies”, though this latter point is disputed. Given the age of this Pluscarden (1977) it is plausible that this is in fact Mosstowie spirit.

This exceptionally old whisky is part of a new series under Silver Seal Whisky Co's "Whisky is Classical Collection". A tribute to Rossini's opera,"Il Barbiere di Siviglia", it was distilled in 1977 and bottled in 2015. 46.7% Alc./Vol. 550 bottles released.
