A remarkable find, this antique 'Old Fitzgerald' was distilled and bottled at the legendary Stitzel Weller distillery (noted on the back label). Stitzel-Weller was located in Shively, a suburb of Louisville, Kentucky. It was founded in 1935 and closed in 1972. Both it and Pappy Van Winkle are household Bourbon names because Pappy's grandson, Julian Van Winkle III, created 'Pappy Van Winkle' in the 1990s using mostly Stitzel-Weller whiskey. This legendary liquid is now largely unobtainable (at any reasonable price). Pappy, the brand, went on to become a phenomena, winning awards and later dubbed the 'Bourbon Billionaires Can't Buy.'
Collector's should note an added touch to the 'Tree of Life' decanter, which was labeled for export: It has the glass stopper doubling as a pourer with a hollow neck! However the unusual cork ring around it looks like it may deteriorate on opening.
