"As mentioned in the other review here there are mixed reviews on the internet regarding this whisky, unfortunately it seems the negative reviews are accurate toward the bottle purchased from Nicks, and the rating given is definitely misleading. Definitely on the low end of body and little complexity, coupled with the aroma of ethanol (at only 40% abv), and fairly bitter finish this was quite a disappointment. Hopefully the rating could be reassessed as it does not come close to any of the other 90+ rated whiskys I have tried from here."

"I was interested in trying this drop, intrigued by a pattern of 4-5 star reviews and then every 3 or 4 reviews, you'll find a 1 star, damning review. I'm going to give it a 2.5 star rating myself as while it's easy drinking and not unpleasant, it's not especially noteworthy either. While some might look on it as 'good value' for 1 litre at this price, value doesn't really come into the indulgence of scotch drinking to me. I feel this whisky could sit in a category below medium bodied (which is what the bottle states it is), as it is the lightest whisky I have ever tasted. It is golden and has flavours of hazelnut and pear, true to the bottle's description. Some reviews mentioned bitterness, which I didn't really get, more just what feels like a whisky that rather disappointing in its lack of complexity and what flavour there is, just drops off to nothingness. For context, I like 30, 25 and 15 Glenfarclas, 18 and 15 Glenfiddich, Nikka from the barrel, 16 Lagavulin, 12 Yamazaki, Bunnahabhain 12. I have also tried other whiskies with no age statements and enjoyed them, like the Starward."

Glenlivet Master Distillers Reserve Single Malt Scotch Whisky (1000ml)

Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLAND
$89.99 Bottle
  • ABV 40%

With more 4-5 star user reviews around the web than most whiskies we can recall, this is one of the more notable big brand bottlings of late intended exclusively for the Duty Free market.

A Travel Retail Exclusive celebrating the only three men who have been Master Distillers at Glenlivet. Alan Winchester, the current custodian, is responsible for this no age statement release matured in three cask types: ex-sherry, first-fill and re-fill American hogsheads (or in marketing friendly parlay, 'traditional casks'). This has had more 4-5 star user reviews around the web than most whiskies we can recall, except from one 'Mr. Murray' (86.5 points). Bottled in a big value 1 litre format. Not scheduled for release in Australia.

Retasted February 2018... New packaging and a new batch; similar on the nose, but on the palate, the fruity burst is toned down a notch; the length also seems shorter. Otherwise, stylistically on par with the previous. 90 points

Previous batch tasted February 2015: Pure bright amber / polished brass. Lifted and pure orchard fruit opening sniff; a few minutes in the glass draws out dry-styled citrus marmalade, vanilla malt and light sweet spices. Comes across as a relaxed style, middle-weighted and easy going with its attractive fruity malt delivery, up until the finish which adds pepper, wood and ups the intensity. Concludes crisp and fresh with a buzzing gingery warmth amid the lingering fruitiness. Deceptively long. A dangerously drinkable evolution of delicious flavours. 40% Alc./Vol. 93 points
