A rare import from Scotland's smallest distillery. The name Edradour (pronounced: Ed-ra-dower) is first mentioned in 1837 however its year of conception is unknown. Located in the Southern Highlands (better known as the Midlands), the distillery had been in the hands of American owners for almost a century when it was obtained by Campbell Distillers (a subsidiary of Pernod Ricard) in 1982. Today, Edradour remains Scotland's smallest distillery with the whisky hand made by just three men. The operation has the required minimum of two stills and uses mostly traditional equipment such as worm tubs to cool the spirit and the last 'Morton's refrigerator' operating in the industry to cool the wort. The equipment has remained unchanged despite being barely capable of any commercial quantity. Only twelve casks of whisky are produced a week, making Edradour a rare pleasure for a fortunate few.Tasting note.... Deep amber gold. Vanilla malt, hints of oatmeal and soft spice on the nose. Light entry features shortbread and gentle spiciness followed by subtle orchard fruit and shortbread aftertaste. Atypically pedestrian. 40% Alc./Vol. Other reviews... Brushed amber color. Aromas of salt caramel, roasted nuts, and spicy bread pudding with a silky, dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body and a malted chocolate, minted melon, sour cream pastry, and mossy earth finish. An interesting combination of grain, fruit, and earth.
