Johnnie Walker Blender's Batch Bourbon Cask & Rye Finish Blended Scotch Whisky (1000ml)
    SCOTLAND
    $99. 99
    Bottle
    $1199.88 Dozen
    ABV: 40%
Number two in Johnnie Walker's collectable "Blender's Batch" series comes with an American twist: Composed from five distilleries including grain whisky from the now-closed Port Dundas, this was aged in first-fill Bourbon barrels before a six month finishing in former American rye whiskey casks. Its inspiration stems from Jim Beveridge's time spent blending Bourbons and ryes in Kentucky in the 1990s. Normally a travel retail exclusive, we've sneaked a small volume into out latest shipment!

Other reviews... Try this in your next Manhattan. Heather honey sweetness, Belgian waffles, cinnamon, rye spices, creamy vanilla, peppercorn, and dried porcini emerge after the 6-month rye cask finishing period. Sweet caramel oozes over the tongue, Highland toffee and Orkney fudge hold the spices in check. Banana candy and deep citrus acknowledge the Dufftown single malt component. The most accomplished Blender’s Batch to date. Emma Walker has nailed it.

Other reviews... great to see someone have the good sense to try to make the most of rye...If they can tame the caramels the results will be better still.

A new whisky from Australian spirits company ASM Liquor, made without the use of residual herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides which the company suggests contribute to hangovers.

Light gold colour with pale straw hue. The fresh, clean grainy nose, offers honeyed aromas with a faint smokiness and a touch of vanilla and clove. Very smooth entry leads into a medium dry palate offering flavours of cereal, manuka honey and the softest trace of smoke. Short aftertaste of cereals and spice. A decent youthful blend. 37.5% Alc./Vol.

2016 North Star The Fool 6 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    SCOTLAND
    Reduced from $94.99
    $84. 99
    Bottle
    $1019.88 Dozen
    ABV: 57.3%

North Star's Tarot Blend 'The Fool' has been crafted from single malts and grains matured for six years. The parcel of casks came from Edrington Group (owners of Macallan, Highland Park et al.), the malts reportedly held in refill Macallan/Glenlivet butts, with the majority of the grain component coming from North British (80%). Breaking the trend of mediocre blends at 40% with caramel colouring and filtration, this is not shy on intensity at 57.3%. It's our understanding nothing has been added - which is all the more unusual for the category. Fingal Crayton at Dramface.com commented, "...this blend offers a no-nonsense yet intriguing profile. It's a solid choice for those who appreciate the simple pleasures of a well-crafted whisky. I’m really hopeful that North Star Spirits continue this series with the rest of the tarot deck. Whether the rest are blends like this one or not, this is a fantastic start to this series. The value on offer here is unreal."

Our tasting found a delicious blend leaning more towards malt whisky, despite the mash bill being grain heavy (that's probably due to a preference for maize rather than wheat at North British). A rich, oily cereal character fills the mouth before nuances of dried apple and cinnamon enter at the finish. Dangerously easy to drink uncut, the charming reproduction Tarot card-inspired label features a young man without a care in the world as he sets out on a new adventure. He's gazing upwards toward the sky (and the Universe) and is seemingly unaware that he's about to skip off a precipice into the unknown. Over his shoulder rests a modest knapsack containing everything he needs – which isn’t much (in this case a large Glencairn filled with whisky)! At his feet runs a small dog, representing loyalty and protection while encouraging him to charge forward and learn the lessons he came to learn. In short, the card speaks of new beginnings, opportunity and potential.

    Fife, SCOTLAND
    $59. 99

    $719.88 Dozen
    ABV: 40%

Pig's Nose is a five year old blended whisky, created by Richard Patterson, Scotland’s only third generation master blender. It forms a companion brand to 'Sheep Dip'. The whisky's name comes from the farming expression “soft as a pig’s nose” and the blend contains a high percentage (40%) of malt whiskies, principally from Speyside imbuing the product with their characteristic softness. 40% Alc./Vol.

Described in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2008 as “A big, sweet, chunky, gawky, grainlashed but hugely enjoyable blend.'

Pure Scot Virgin Oak Blended Scotch Whisky (500ml)
    SCOTLAND
    $44. 99
    Bottle
    $539.88 Dozen
    ABV: 43%

A second arrangement from Lowland single malt producer, Bladnoch, combines their own malt at a minimum age of eight years with malt whiskies from Islay, Speyside and the Highlands, along with grain whiskies. As the name suggests, the final blend is finished in new (unused or virgin) American oak casks.

Other reviews... Bladnoch master distiller Ian MacMillan’s blend is worth seeking out for its appealing freshness; green apple, caramel, shaved oak, toasted whole-grain bread, warm pastries, and dried peels. The palate is awash with bright flavors of honey, walnut, barley sugar, gingerbread in custard, orange taffy candy, and a little spice. It squeezes out more juicy peel oils the more you taste. The conclusion has sweet honey, gingerbread crumbs, and a citrus intensity. 92 points - whiskyadvocate.com

...Pure Scot's Virgin Oak expression is surprisingly full-bodied and peaty for a blended Scotch. An assertive smokiness comes through on the first sip, backed by vanilla, oak, and a touch of baking spice. That peat smoke comes through again on the finish with meaty, barbecue note. This is the kind of blended Scotch that could appeal to fans of American whiskeys, and it's a solid value too. 87 points - distiller.com

Vat 69 Blended Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    Edinburgh, SCOTLAND
    $44. 99
    Bottle
    $539.88 Dozen
    ABV: 40%

No serious bar is complete without an inexpensive mixing scotch like Vat 69. This is a simple, unpretentious whisky, with hints of smoke and malt in the background. Hardy enough to withstand the most heavy handed mixing.

Originally blended in 1882 by one William Sanderson, a young Wine & Spirit Merchant based in Edinburgh. Intent on launching a new brand, Sanderson commissioned 100 different blends from noted blenders and carried out his own market research. After tasting the samples with a group of asscosciates, it was blend number 69 that was chosen. The label still emulates the original which was inspired by Portugese port labels of the time. Vat 69 is distilled in Scotland, imported and bottled in Australia. 40% alc./vol.

    $8388.00 Dozen
A very rare White Horse from the middle of the 20th century and bottled in Australia by Dalgety and Co. in Sydney, from a period when it was common for Scotch Whisky to be imported in bulk then bottled in Australia.

The composition included Lagavulin and whiskies from the Glenlivet district in Speyside. Replete with a little white horse figurine dangling from the neck tag. Some damage to the labels, otherwise very good condition. One only to sell.

    ABV: 40%
Tasting note: Composed from 41 different whiskies and "Triple Matured" for extra character with a finishing in Sherry casks, this deep amber coloured blend suggests a good proportion of malt is in the mix. Other reviews... If you're looking for a big flavoured dram and with something approaching a vicious left uppercut, this might be a useful bottle to have on hand. ..a veritable orgy of big, oily, juicy, murky flavours...You cannot but like it, in the same way you might occasionally like rough sex.
