As of 2012, Tamdhu has reinvented itself under new custodians. Ian Macleod have invigorated the operation after several years of closure. Happily, the revamped packaging reflects heightened form in the whisky. This is properly Sherried, text-book Speyside offering terrific value.

Tasting note: Bright brassy gold. Conjures attractive toasted nut / poached pear and muesli bar-like scents with the enticing fruity accent staying through to the second pass. Well rounded with good concentration; the sprightly delivery offers a medium dry, fruity-malt and sweet spice combo that's judiciously balanced. There's obvious quality to the wood selection with not a trace of sulphur evident. About as quintessentially Speyside as you're likely to find in this price bracket. Nicely done! 40% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... A very welcome arrival from new owners Ian MacLeod, this has been aged in sherry wood. As a result, you can’t help comparing it to Macallan and while there’s none of the oily depths, there are fragrant top notes of honey and apple before some resin and warm leather develop, but no sulfur. Some of the richness is lost with water, so I’d leave it as is. This is a stunner for a 10 year old and is marked accordingly. 89 points - www.maltadvocate.com (Fall 2013) Reviewed by: Dave Broom
