Rumour had it that Springbank discontinued their previous wood finish range, only to take the concept a step further: More than a wood finish, this has been exclusively matured in x-Burgundy casks for the full period of its maturation. Just over 10,000 bottles were produced. High European demand has led to allocations with many retailers limiting purchases to one bottle per customer. Long sold out overseas, this bottle was sourced from the Australian secondary market.

Tasting note: The flawless, polished brass appearance is a pleasure to behold leaving thick legs down the sides of the glass. Big on aromatics with a complex medley of cough lozenge, damp campfire and latent barley sugar in the opening sniffs. Further air contact draws out ripe red berries, cocoa and buckwheat pancake. Big but balanced with weighty malt augmented by a slathering of sweet, chocolatey peat. The wood rallies at the finish being momentarily tannic, followed by late berry tart and vanilla in the aftertaste. Fantastic poise. Springbank's wood finishes are invariably the highlights in the range. This ups the ante. 53.5% Alc./Vol.
