(ri)1 Rye Whiskey (750ml)

$125.00 Bottle
  • ABV 46%

Beam Global Spirits & Wine have made an unusually low-key entry into the super premium rye whiskey market with the release of (ri)1 (pronounced 'rye one'). The packaging is a complete disassociation from the Jim Beam product line, and a dramatic departure from the traditional way American whiskeys, especially Rye whiskeys, have been marketed. The minimalist presentation bears no age statement and no reference to Beam as the producer.

Lovers of Rye whiskey take note: This product is not officially scheduled for distribution in Australia. As luck has it, we've managed to secure stocks (less than one dozen bottles). More may become available later in the year, but there are no guarantees.

'A sexy rye for sipping or mixing elegant cocktails'.

Other reviews... Rye whiskey has gone hip. This is a new offering from Beam Global Spirits and Wines, but it is not part of the Jim Beam portfolio. It will be its own new entity. It's crisp and vibrantly spicy, but with a rich, silky sweetness that marries very well with the rye intensity. It is exactly what I think it was designed to be: a mature enough rye whiskey that can be enjoyed neat or on the rocks, but with plenty of youth and vitality to zing in a cocktail. I tasted it next to a couple of the other ''entry level'' straight rye whiskeys to confirm this isn't all just fancy packaging, and it is indeed a superior product. No, it's not one of those ultra-aged rye whiskeys on the market, but it wasn't meant to be either. A nice whiskey, but pricey for a rye with no age statement. 87 points - www.maltadvocate.com

...Deep amber copper color. Candied peanuts, cinnamon taffy, and honeyed golden raisin toast aromas follow through on a supple, round entry to a spicy, dry-yet-fruity full body with toasty fruit cake crust, cocoa, roasted caramelized nuts, and delicate anise. Finishes with a long, voluptuous sweet praline, wet stone and peppery spice fade. A smooth, delicious and sexy rye for sipping or mixing elegant cocktails.
