The Macallan A Night On Earth The First Light Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Macallan's special releases are becoming so numerous that apart from the bespoke packaging and artwork, it's sometimes hard to differentiate between them. Most are matured in sherry-seasoned oak, which historically has been a defining feature of the Speyside distillery. Every now and then, they throw some bourbon barrels into the mix as well. Such is the case with the new A Night on Earth: The First Light. According to the distillery, the barrels were used sparingly to bring “delicate sweetness” to the palate, so the majority of the whisky was still aged in sherry-seasoned American and European oak. Official tasting notes describe notes of caramel, mellow baking spices, vanilla ice cream, pavlova, icing sugar, stone fruits, and hints of coconut and Manuka honey on the palate. The reference to The First Light, is meant to celebrate the arrival of the New Year in New Zealand with the presentation featuring colourful illustrations by New Zealand artist, Bonnie Brown. 43% Alc./Vol.
