Legacy stands as one of The Gospel's most revered Project Releases - a distiller’s obsessive tribute to America's Maryland Ryes that were traditionally softer, sweeter and less spicy than their Pennsylvanian cousins. The marriage of grains remains the same as its predecessor - 63% unmalted Mallee Rye, 32% Australian Corn and 5% Malted Barley, matured for three years in a single heavy-toast, medium-char cask. The result is bourbonesque, though surprisingly shy aromatically with hints of muddled mint, cherry ripe and cocoa extending to the early palate. Near the finish, the profile surges dramatically; rye oils intensifying, sponge cake-like sweetness refreshed by touches of peppermint, nipping alcohol and light smokey oak in the fade. Bold but well balanced, a few drops of water improves the length, however we'd say it's a whiskey where the nuances are best appreciated uncut or close to bottling strength. 55% Alc./Vol.
