Notes on Glenallachie 12YO... The GlenAllachie have done it again! The 12 Year Old has won the award for World's Best Single Malt at the 2025 World Whiskies Awards, an honour it previously received in 2021 for Batch #4 of its 10 year old Cask Strength release. Billy Walker considers the 12 year old to be the heart of the core range with some of the very best virgin oak, Oloroso sherry and Pedro Ximenez casks selected. It is slightly less robust than the ten year old, though just as deeply coloured and easily one of the more flavour-packed 12 year olds going around, opening with notes of chocolate box and Turkish delight followed by a medley of dried fruits, cocoa, clove, honey and vanilla, plus no shortage of concentration on the palate; A saturate of dried fruits and spices, orange oils, citrus blossom, chocolate box and dried apricots combine with fine astringency for excellent sweet-dry balance. Overall, fresher, and with a little more 'breed' than the brawny 10. If you enjoy exuberant sherried styles, then this will be right up your alley. 46% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. 92 points

Notes on Glenallachie 12YO Moscatel Wood Finish... Initially aged for over 8 years in ex-Bourbon barrels and then finished for approximately 42 months in hand-selected Moscatel barriques (a Portuguese sweet dessert wine) imparting floral aromas and a luxuriously smooth texture. It's another decadent, fruit-forward Speysider, typical of GlenAllachie’s celebrated wood-finish lineup. Bottled exclusively for Europe, it's unlikely we'll see this one again! 48% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Other reviews... The Moscatel cask is mainly noticeable in the nose, where it pours out of the glass very sweet and sticky and light fruity (gooseberries, light grapes, star fruit, etc.). The fruit flavors integrate nicely into the light Glenallachie character without overwhelming the whisky. There is a slight spice in the finish, but it is much lighter than many of its distillery siblings. Overall, nice summer whisky with a lot of pressure and well-integrated alcohol. The cask influence is very restrained by Billy Walker standards and therefore somewhat unspectacular. - whiskybase.com
