That Boutique-y Whisky Company Teerenpeli 5 Year Old Single Malt Finnish Whisky (500ml) - Batch 1
Another release in the 'Wine cask series' from Boutique-y is this 5-year-old from family-owned Finnish distillery, Teerenpeli. Matured in a Spanish ex-Oloroso sherry cask, with 448 bottles in the run it promises a rich, fruit-cakey profile. 47.6% Alc./Vol.
Established 2002 in Lahti, today Teerenpeli turns out over 100,000 litres of new spirit per year in their Scottish made stills. It's become the biggest distillery in Finland, and specialises in producing single malts. Casks are matured in 40-foot ex-reefer sea containers, which sit outside the distillery without heating or cooling. Outside temperatures vary wildly throughout the year, from -35C to +30C, which causes significant cask expansion and contraction. As for the colourful label: Teerenpeli translates to ‘flirtation’ and also means ‘black grouse’, so Boutique-y made sure there’s a visual reference to both. Teerenpeli's sales and Marketing Manager, Jari Mämmi, can be seen driving the Zamboni along the rows of shipping container businesses. The original distillery started off within a restaurant, hence the stills in the back. The Pelicans are a local ice hockey team, oh, and Jari is currently sporting a Mohawk - as are the black grouse!
Notes from the bottlers... Nose: Rich and fruity with a distinct nuttiness. Fruit cake with candied fruits. Hints of burnt sugar, cinnamon and liquorice.
Palate: Sweet and fruity; Chinese peach apricot, grape juice, with some vanilla sponge cake too.
