Stagg Jr. is all grown up, set to replace the barely affordable George T.Stagg as the new value cask-strength whiskey in the Buffalo Trace line up.

George T. Stagg is the name behind one of Kentucky's most-awarded Bourbons. If you follow Jim Murray, it's nothing short of the world's best whiskey. But it has a lesser-known brother that according to some reviewers, often comes close and even overtakes George T. Stagg in quality from time to time. Launched as Stagg Jr. in 2013, it was released in slightly larger volumes and more than once per year, so in theory, it would be easier to obtain than its older sibling. That wasn't to last. Junior quickly gained the attention of enthusiasts as it capitalized on the growing popularity of the Stagg name - and barrel-proof bourbons in general. In 2021, producers Buffalo Trace announced that Batch 18 would be the first batch to lose “Jr.” from its title. It's simply called “Stagg”, hence the letters "JR" are no longer displayed on the new bottle designs. Now released twice a year in America, Australia's allocations remain 'reliably unreliable'. The bourbon’s age is believed to hover between 7-9 years old, bottled uncut and unfiltered, with the strengths varying from batch to batch. 22A has been talked up by some bloggers as one of the all-time favourites since the series commenced.
