St. Lucia's 1931 expression is considered the jewel in the crown for followers of this distillery. Made as a tribute to the founder, Denis Barnard and the year he established the distillery, the 1931 series was originally released to commemorate 80 years of St Lucian rum. From 2011 through to 2016, a new blend was released annually with each different edition sporting a different coloured label. This appears to be the 1931 going forward, now under the Chairman's Reserve label: A blend of fourteen distillates from four different stills (two John Dore, one Vendome and one Coffey still). The components are molasses based with added funk from an additional 10% Lucian agricole, produced using cane growing adjacent to the distillery. Both column and pot still rums are aged between 6 and 15 years. Maturation takes place in Bourbon and Port casks followed by a gentle filtration before bottling. Presentation remains in the tradition of the original series: An elegant flask-shaped decanter, complete with impressive wooden stopper. 46% Alc./Vol.

Notes from the producers... Vibrant medium gold in color with a subtle bronze hue, the character of the rum is highlighted by the expressive aromas of honied raisins and vibrant toasty oak notes followed by hints of leather, spice and tobacco. A well-balanced mid-palate provides structure around flavors of rich sultana fruit with hints of crème caramel and buttery oak. At first a sweet raisin fruit, trailed by dry and tannic flavors from the oak barrels. A hint of grassy aromatic sweetness from the sugarcane distillate gives a unique, hedonistic but balanced element to finish of the rum.
