Signatory Vintage Speyside (GL) 16 Year Old 100 Proof Edition #10 Exceptional Cask Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
We asked for a Sherry bomb and Signatory delivered. First-fill oloroso matured with outstanding colour, close to cask strength and non chill filtered. But where's it from? "Speyside GL" could be anything given the amount of Glensomethings in Speyside. GlenFiddich, less likely GlenFarclas. We're told permissions can be cask/batch specific, and independents sometimes decide not to use a distillery name because they would have to pay more to use it. Given the low prices for these bottlings, Signatory clearly like to keep costs down. Let's not overthink it. That said, the "GL" is some indication that whatever follows "Glen" begins with an "L." Whiskyfun have tasted similar releases and suggest they're Glenlivet. We say it's definitely Glenlivet. And apparently it's absolutely delicious. Dates, leather, sherry, tobacco, cinnamon, lots of wood & even more sherry at a price that wouldn’t have looked out of place a decade ago. It could well turn out to be one of the whisky buys of the year. 57.1% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
