Seppelt DP 59 Rare Rutherglen Tokay (500ml)

Seppelt have some nine million litres of fortified wine in storage , some of which dates back to 1878. The base wine for this superb Tokay dates back to 1964, however the actual blend was not created until 1983. Very deep sienna brown colour with deep olive green hue, showing its age. The nose is magnificently complex, with layers of caramel, toffee, honey and treacle – a wonderful sniff. The palate displays the viscosity of oil yet far from being heavy and cloying. Layers of honey, toffee and raisins emerge. Exceptional length. Perfect balance with a profoundly long aftertaste of toffee, raisins and old brandy which lasts for minutes.

Deep olive-brown; spice, toffee, caramel and tea leaf aromas intermingle with pronounced rancio.  The super-elegant, intense and long palate has a refined and controlled complexity, the flavours peeling off like layers of onion skin.  Significantly more viscous than the Rare Muscat.
