Renegade Gin (700ml)

A gold medal winning gin from Doghouse Distillery in London. Made using a wheat spirit base that they distill themselves rather than outsourcing, fourteen botanicals are included in the mix: juniper, coriander, angelica and orris, as well as more unusual green, leafy items such as bay, sage, winter savoury and cardamom. These provide a fresh pine, herbaceousness on the palate. The addition of the West African pepper 'Grains of Paradise' contributes warmth. Given all those ingredients, it's surprising how fruity Renegade is on the nose; Our tasting from a 40ml sample revealed ripe red apples and poached pears over background potpourri. The palate is more classically styled with a tangy combination of pine resin, fresh herbs (thyme / sage) and perfectly tuned heat in a juniper-driven finale that's creamy-yet-dry. There's nice vibrancy throughout, making this very sessionable indeed. Try it with premium Indian Tonic Water and a sprig of rosemary. 42% Alc./Vol.
