Rare Character 'Old Mate' Single Barrel Cask Strength 6 Year Old Straight Bourbon Whiskey (750ml)

Rare Character Whiskey was founded in 2021 by restaurateur, bar owner and spirits expert, Pablo Moix together with brand builder, Peter Nevenglosky. Moix has developed personal relationships within the whiskey industry allowing him access to liquid that would otherwise rarely be bought to the public. Single casks that depart from the mainstream are of primary interest, like this six year and one month old Bourbon matured in a barrel with heavy toasted heads. Bottled under the “Old Mate” label exclusively for Australia, first sniffs leave the impression of creamy soda, vanilla wafers, hazelnut chocolate and oak shavings. At high proof it hits the tongue gracefully with creme brûlée, caramel fudge, oatmeal cookies, honey and sweet vanillas. Sleek, sweet, pure and finely tannic, the quality of the wood shines. Few Bourbons deliver this kind of finesse at natural strength. Distilled and aged in Indiana from a mash bill of 60% corn, 36% rye and 4% malt. Bottled in Kentucky. 58.3% Alc./Vol.

Notes from the bottlers... Brown sugar, cherry, spice - similar to a classic cherry soda fountain drink. Clove, liquorice, nutmeg, with a touch of citrus and tobacco on the finish. The heavy toast heads add to the richer spice and earthen notes. While typically spice heavy and rye grain forward, the grain has aged out and more of the barrel influence comes forth.
