The Passion fruit was first discovered in South America, during the colonisation by Spanish missionaries in the 1500s. They first noticed the amazing flowers of the fruit in the jungle. Nobody knows exactly why it became known as the Passion fruit. Was it because the crown-like flower reminded people of the thorn bush of Christ's Passion? Or because of its supposed qualities as an aphrodisiac?

Today in the heart of Cointreau country, near Angers in North West France, the Passion Fruit is being used to create an original liqueur - Passoã. Passoã was first launched in 1986 in the Benelux region and internationally in 1994. Today it is enjoyed worldwide and distributed in more than 42 markets. Passoã is the number 1 liqueur brand in Puerto-Rico, number two in the Netherlands, and number three in Belgium. This versatile liqueur is an exotic, light weight mixer primarily designed to be drunk with chilled tropical fruit juices. Try a Passoa Orange: One third Passoa with two thirds orange juice.
