Port has traditionally been a fortified wine made from red grapes so when Stanley and Dick Yeatman of Taylor’s, generally regarded as the Rolls Royce of port houses, made the first white port in 1935 and called it ‘Chip Dry’, it came as something of a surprise to many of their competitiors. Today White Port is more common and is made from White Grapes (typically Arinto, Gouveio, Malvasia and Viosinho) in both sweet and dry styles. In warmer weather White Port is intended to be drunk, slightly chilled, as an aperitif.
