Initiated by Distillery manager, John Campbell as a tribute to the managers who preceded him, this Travel Retail Exclusive Laphroaig was left to rest in first-fill, over-charred ex-bourbon barrels before further maturing in large, new European oak hogsheads. The latter provide a slower maturation than traditional casks. This is a newly introduced procedure at Laphroaig, and the result is not only a deep, but also a rich and structured whisky with notes of signature peat smoke, caramelised dark fruits and an oily, woody finish. Fans should appreciate the significantly higher ABV: - 48%, up from just 40% on Laphroaig 10.
