Kilchoman Madeira Cask Matured 2021 Release Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Founder, Anthony Wills preferences first-fill fortified wine barrels with a view to bottling relatively young so that the peat isn't overwhelmed by the cask influence. Matured for five years and three months in fresh Madeira hogsheads, this is as desirable a Kilchoman as ever. The nose presents a heady mix of sea spray and elastoplast, orange cake and fruit'n'nut chocolate and follows in a controlled, seamless delivery that feels ridiculously easy in the mouth at 50%. The sweet malt is enriched by flavours of smokey fruit cake, allspice and dark chocolate and nicely countered by a wave of salty, maritime freshness. It feels slightly richer through the finish than most other Kilchomans, fading with suggestions of pipe tobacco, white pepper, charred potpourri and mezcal-like smokiness. 17,000 bottles are on offer. Peated to 50ppm. 50% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
