Kilchoman 14 Year Old 20th Anniversary Cask Series Ex-Sherry Casks Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Kilchoman is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the distillery’s founding with a series of events and special bottlings. The centrepiece is the 20th Anniversary Cask Series. Our allocations have just landed. Consisting of two Oloroso sherry and two Bourbon maturations, there are two 14 year olds, one 15 year old and an 18 year old - the oldest Kilchoman to date. The ex-bourbon releases are defined by salty peat smoke and bright citrus sweetness. In contrast, the darker-hued ex-sherry releases offer a richer profile, with notes of dried fruits, BBQ smoke, and mixed spices. Each release consists of five casks, so twenty casks in total that Anthony Wills considered to epitomise Kilchoman's flavour profile, typified by a 50ppm phenol spec. Only this bottling departs from the norm with barley peated to around 20ppm.  The outturn is also more than double that of the Bourbon-aged releases, in this case, 3145 units have made it to market. Naturally, Australia will receive a small fraction of any of these, so collectors and Kilchoman fans should act sooner than later. 55% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Notes from the producers... Colour: dark honey-mahogany. Nose: subtle smoky notes, smoked raisins, black pepper and dark fruit. Palate: a rich blend of dates, chocolate, spices and sweet wood, supported by a distinctive sherry influence. Finish: long, distinctive, with notes of grilled fruit, delicate peat and sweet smoke.
