High West Bourbon Whiskey (700ml)
The newly presented and re-breanded High West Bourbon has dropped the words "American Prairie Reserve" from the label. The mash bill has also slightly changed, though we wouldn't expect the taste to be noticeably different and the company claims it's the same. Primarily made up of 75% corn, 21% rye and 4% barley malt from MGP blended with a straight Bourbon composed of 84% corn, 8% rye and 8% malted barley, other components are undisclosed for contractual reasons. Aged a minimum of two years and bottled non chill filtered, this is great in cocktails or suits easy-drinking. 46% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... In a world where MGP sourced bourbon is everywhere, High West Bourbon tastes like MGP bourbon despite its other blended components. High West has done little to differentiate their blended bourbon from every other MGP sourced bourbon on the market. When American Prairie was originally released, there was a degree of higher expectation based on the company’s history, but at this point, with new owners and blenders, and a new brand name, this product needs to stand out, and prop itself up on its own two feet. Sadly, that still isn’t the case, and this product blends into the sea with so many other similar sourced and uninspired bourbons. - breakingbourbon.com
Notes from the producers... The perfect marriage of richness and brightness expressed by notes of honey nougat, sweet cornbread biscuits, and lemon zest with caramel apples and pecan pie lingering on the finish.
