Hellyers Road Distillery Richly Peated 9 Year Old Single Malt Australian Whisky (700ml)

Crafted from barley peated to 45-55 ppm, then matured in first-fill American oak ex-bourbon barrels sourced from Heaven Hill. Initially more fruity than smoky on the nose (apple and elderflower), otherwise a very successful, Highland-inspired drier-styled peater. Cocoa and bitter dark chocolate abound, alongside wood smoke, hints of mezcal, a burst of sweet oak and citrus. The oily, well-tuned finish continues the theme with subtle barbecue char through the aftertaste. Very tasty. 48.3% Alc./Vol. Non-chill-filtered.

Notes from the producers... Nose: Meaty, smoky and satisfying. Speck, fresh herbs, lemon zest and honey. Palate: Sweet campfire smoke, coastal green lichen, and damp bark. Distinctly Tasmanian. A sweet mid palate, toffee apple and citrus zest before a classical peat crescendo. Finish: Medium length with persistent salinity.
