El Ron Prohibido Reserva Solera 12 Rum (700ml)... Stemming from Mexico, El Ron Prohibido is matured in a 12-year old solera composed of barrels that previously held sweet raisin wine. Polished mahogany colour. Mild balsamic over richer scents of candied orange, choc-chip cookie, praline, chico lollies and dilute molasses. Five minutes sweetens the aroma and shifts the emphasis to sticky date pudding. Light to medium bodied, off-dry delivery. Coffee milk, caramel fudge and lingering mocha flavours are nicely counterpointed by subtle bitter chocolate in the aftertaste. An atypical style with a likeable cocoa / mocha accent.
