Diplomatico Anejo Rum (700ml)

VENEZUELA
$69. 99
Bottle
$839.88 Dozen
ABV: 40%

Few people will be aware that as well as being home to the famous rum based medicinal bitters, Angostura, Venezuela makes a number of well-respected barrel-aged golden and dark Rums. Local producers say the combination of tropical humidity and cool winds that bathe Venezuela's sugar-cane fields helps to age the rum faster than in other countries. As José Mandry, president of the Venezuelan Alcohols Chamber that groups most of the country's rum makers says, 'Venezuela is a blessed land situated at the north of South America where the winds don't tear us up but gently rock us, and gently rock our rums.' The change in temperature from day to night stimulates interaction between the alcohol distilled from cane juice and the barrels, enhancing the taste.

This bottling is the ideal starting point for your experiences with Diplomatico, or even Rum in general. The majority (95%) input from lighter, column still rums and the average of four years in barrel translates into a lighter profile that's as versatile as it is accessible.

Tasting notes: Very pale straw colour with water like hue. Slightly restrained, drier styled aromatics offer a top note of vanilla bean above iced coffee with malted milk, honey, a whiff of coconut oil, a sprinkling of cinnamon and a subtle grassy undertone adding freshness. Soft creamy palate delivers medium dry flavours of malt, vanilla, sweet spice, and a touch of mocha rounded off with a spicy flourish. Perfect balance. Clean, dry finish. Reasonable length with an aftertaste of mocha and spice. The leaner, lighter and more elegant rum of the collection. 40.0% Alc./Vol.

Other Reviews.... The nosing passes find layers of honey, old leather, palm oil, old oak and molasses. The palate entry explodes with succulent tastes of oak, vanilla cream, and honey; the midpalate offers tastes of cookie spices, raisins, dates, and dark chocolate. Ends up balanced, correctly sweet, and elegant. A fabulous deal. - P.P. (5/1/2007) - 90-95: Superb/Highly Recommended Wine Enthusiast Magazine

...Gold amber color. Aromas of toffeed nuts, dried pineapple and papaya, mocha, vanilla bean, and rich brown spices follow through on a smooth, velvety entry to an off-dry medium-to-full body with honey, cherry cola, and tropical fruit salad notes. Finishes with nice polished wood and spice notes and a balancing wave of pepper and wet stone minerality. A little on the sweet side, but extremely inviting and drinkable.
