Cedar Ridge Distillery was founded in 2005 as the first licensed distillery in Iowa since Prohibition. They initially produced wine and a number of other spirits before dabbling in whiskey. Their bourbon debuted in 2010, with a label paying homage to Iowa as the largest corn producing state in the Union. With its cold winters, hot summers, and abundance of corn, the venture clearly has all of the ingredients necessary to fine tune a memorable small batch bourbon from its rickhouses. It will be interesting taste this over time as they’re able to increase the average age of the bourbon. Produced from a mash bill of 75% corn, 15% malted barley and 10% rye, it should be noted that the below review is from a very early batch. Our current stocks represent more recent, and therefore older material.

Other reviews... Thin corn sweetness, nice splash of mint and cinnamon. The whiskey's warm, but not hot, and it's exceptionally smooth. There's a slice of rye spice, and oaky vanilla, and the finish is clean and sweet. But it's almost too smooth, and not gutsy enough; if Stagg is bourbon turned up to eleven, this is at about six and a half. Cedar Ridge has a great start here; now show me more. 82 points - whiskyadvocate.com, reviewed by: Lew Bryson 2011
