Camus Extra Dark & Intense Cognac (700ml)
$699. 00 Bottle
In 2000, Camus released 'Extra Elegance' – an innovation at the time. Now comes "Dark & Intense", a more aromatic and concentrated expression. In line with its predecessor, this is handsomely presented in a sleek, black carafe, topped by a weighty gold coloured cap. This cognac goes through a slightly different process. After selecting the eaux-de-vies, the barrels are opened and the contents removed. The barrels are then exposed to an open flame for just the right amount of time (as determined by the Cellar Master). The flames 'regenerate' the aromatic potential of the barrels. The cognac is then returned to cask to continue to age. Tasting takes place on a daily basis to ensure that the process is stopped at just the right time. Tasting note: The spectacular polished copper colour is matched by the superb bouquet - dried figs, dates and ripe nectarine; 2-3 minutes of swirling adds cedary oak, cocoa and sticky date to the mix. Richer and more luscious than the standard 'Extra', with a mid-palate burst of dried fruits (figs, raisins, fruit cake). The finish turns sweetly oaky, honeyed, warming followed by cafe cremes, vanilla and caramel, drying with traces of cigar box and liquorice strap. A finely tuned, flavourful, luxury cognac that draws comparisons to extra-aged New World brandies. 40% Alc./Vol.
