Bearded Lady Bourbon Whiskey (700ml)

Pale gold / deep straw colour. Moderately intense aromatics include charry oak, vanilla and a trace of clove making for a fairly mundane Bourbon sniff. To its credit, this remains clean and dry with none of the confectionary sweetness associated with many entry level Bourbons so it’s a cut above there. The palate offers a medium dry, softly textured whiskey with the palate flavours essentially the same as the aromas. Excellent balance. Very gently warming spirit. Vanilla and charry oak show good persistence into the aftertaste. A pleasant whiskey sitting at the drier end of the Bourbon spectrum - no doubt thanks to a generous input of rye, but we’d love to have seen it bottled at 46% ABV or higher. One gets the impression flavour has been compromised for the sake of mass appeal.
