Backwoods Red Gum Smoked Cask Expression Single Malt Australian Whisky (700ml)
There have been a handful of distillers who've experimented with native timbers. Backwoods is one of the latest efforts, with a single malt made from Australian-grown barley, smoked using native red gum wood, and matured for five years in American oak casks that previously held corn whisky. Fewer than 200 bottles have been produced, making it one of their smallest releases to date! 48% Alc./Vol.
Notes from the producers... On the nose, it opens with perfumed smoke — soft, aromatic, and inviting — layered with rich honey, ripe cherry, and a gentle nuttiness. The palate is smooth yet expressive, where smoke and sweetness move in harmony. Fruity honey and stone fruit richness meet toasted almond and subtle tobacco, all carried by a buttery depth that gives the whisky its weight and texture. The finish is long and evolving — browned butter, soft oak, and lingering campfire smoke that slowly fades, leaving a warming, nostalgic impression.
