Since Angel's Envy debuted in 2010, they've been synonymous with a finishing process that's become the heart and soul of the brand. Founder, Lincoln Henderson began ground-breaking experiments using sourced Bourbons and x-Port casks with his son, Wes. Lincoln passed away in 2013, however the success of their research culminated in a global brand and a US$27 million distillery in Louisville, Kentucky. Because the age of this bottling is said to be around 4-6 years old, it's reasonable to assume we're now drinking Angel's Envy' own liquid, instead of out-sourced Bourbons. If you're enamoured by the brand's entry level offering, this is based on the same profile (72% Corn, 18% Rye and 10% malted barley), while delivering extra bite and concentration. Bottled straight from the rickhouses after a four month finishing in Port wood, the result is a full-bodied bourbon with a thick texture and a slow, melt-in-your-mouth flow; The feature notes of cherry chocolate and vanilla are accompanied by lively rye spices that pick up the finish and give the sugars a ride. Compared with the standard expression, it's also slightly drier and more savoury, but shows better persistence. Limited to a 40ml sample, personal preference was to soften it with a single ice cube. This is the kind of whiskey that opens up after extended air contact, and needless to say, the bottle will make a stunning addition to any bar shelf. 276 units were secured for Australian fans, the importer already sold out.
