Tense yet powerful with muscular tannins and a long, succulent yet chiselled finish.

Dark red core with black tinged edges and a vibrant red to dark red hue. Pronounced dark raspberry, liquorice and black cherry scents jump out of the glass trailed by some ripe blueberry, earth and peppered herb notes. Juicy dark raspberry, liquorice and blueberry fruits are underpinned by bright acidity which imparts a fresh feel. Vanillin spice, scorched earth and pepper elements are scattered across the back half. Tense yet powerful, it has muscular tannins and a long succulent yet chiselled finish.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.

From 1960s vines in Blewitt Springs planted to Holocene sand; 20% whole bunch, about 21 days on skins, then 10 months in an old 2500L foudre. There’s a compactness to this, a quietness on opening, fruit enmeshed presently, but there’s concentration, balance and prettiness within. Cranberry, ripe raspberry, damson plum, marasca cherry, some darker cherry, too. Hints of dusky rose, ground cinnamon, white pepper, brown cardamom, bitter herbs, the palate buoyant yet intense, the fine-boned tannins and enlivening acidity invigorating. There’s a lot yet to unfurl, but it’s all there. Drink by 2037.
