Sorrenberg is a small, highly regarded biodynamic winery located in Beechworth, Victoria. Established in 1984 by Barry and Jan Morey, the estate is known for its hands-on, low-intervention approach and its deep commitment to sustainable viticulture. Planted at 560 metres above sea level, Sorrenberg’s vineyard is certified biodynamic and produces wines of great purity, texture and finesse. The range is tightly focused, with the Gamay, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon among Australia’s most sought-after. Production is limited, and demand consistently exceeds supply.
Made with a portion of whole bunches and matured in old oak, typically light to medium-bodied with vibrant acidity and fine tannins. Expect fragrant notes of red cherry, raspberry, spice and earth.

What joy there is in this wine. A bellwether release as always, that gives good DNA of vintags and typically ends up delightful regardless. This was tasted alongside a bunch of Beaujolais for good measure. Biodynamic wonderland of course, for the wines.
It feels somewhat pinot-like, slinky, silky, supple, all bright red cherry fruits, pomegranate juice, sweet spice with savoury elements lightly laid in. Alongside, some shiitake mushroom, faint game meat, white pepper and a good splash of blood orange zestiness to finish. A touch of caraway seed and cinnamon in the mix. Lots on. It feels curiously light, very delicious, energetic – the takeaway is this is a very much so a lither version of this wine. That being said, all class. And drinkability through the roof. Drink 2025 - 2035.
