2024 Quealy Halarah Pinot Noir

Supple on entry with delicious red fruits finishing long, savoury and spicy.

Matured for 12 months in French oak hogsheads. Semi translucent, slightly cloudy red colour with a light red hue. Fragrant violet, red cherry and strawberry scents blossom out of the glass followed by some gentle clove, forest floor, rhubarb and spice notes. Delicious red cherry and strawberry fruits make a supple entrance with notions of rhubarb, forest floor, clove, brambly cedar and spice complexing the back half. Excellent power wave with refined tannins and good underlying freshness. Finishes long, savoury and spicy.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

Given a second day chance, as it was bothering me. Still peculiar. Lots of savoury, slightly vegetal tones, wet forest, moss on stones, fresh woody spice, pine needle resin, dark amaro bitterness; this can be a difficult wine, edgy, moody, quinine-driven. But now, it’s intriguing, compelling. Has a character and made me stop; this must count for something in the AI era. Maybe needed time. Who doesn’t. Drink 2027-2030+
