2024 Mulline Portarlington Chardonnay
Mulline is the creation of two Bens, Mullen and Hine, who set out to showcase exciting single site expressions from the Geelong region with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir at its core. Ben Mulline heads up the winemaking and prior to setting up Mulline cut his teeth at the likes of Domaine Dujac, Yarra Yering, Oakridge, Leeuwin Estate, Torbreck, Clyde Park & Craggy Range.
A rich, beautifully fleshed yet refined Chardonnay that has an exquisitely long and complex finish.
Brilliant pale straw colour with a faint greenish tinge around the outskirts and a watery hue. Attractive aromatics of white peach, nectarine and dried honey are delivered with ample power and complimented by cashew, biscuity nougat and subtle gun flint notes. Rich and beautifully fleshed yet refined in its feel, the mid weighted palate is layered with white peach, nectarine, dried honey and cashew flavours. Biscuity nougat and gun flint elements lend further nuance across the back half. Terrific intensity and drive with a perfectly balanced freshness echoing through the long exquisitely finessed and complex finish.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.

Other Reviews…..
From a vineyard on the water in Port Arlington planted in '94. 20% new French barriques; 15% mlf. Mulline took full control of the vineyard in '23, and it now shows in what's the best Port Arlington Chardonnay I've tasted. Aromas of perfectly ripened stone fruits, orange blossom and a touch of sea spray precede the chalky, nicely concentrated and very well-balanced palate. A delight to consume now and over the next three to five years plus. Drink by 2032.

Chardonnay from a 20+-year-old vineyard.
This is an absolute belter. Straight to the pool room with this one. It’s saline, driven by white peach, neatly tucked with oak and then exceptionally focussed and sustained through the finish. From all angles this wine is a definite yes. We’re onto something pretty special here. Don’t hesitate. Drink 2026-2031+
