2024 Mount Pleasant Mount Henry Shiraz Pinot Noir
Medium bodied with juicy red fruit concluding long, fresh and savoury.
Dark red core with black shaded edges and a vibrant red hue. Attractive cherry and red liquorice aromas drift through the nostrils followed by some dusty earth, subtle red raspberry, fresh herb and spice notes. Juicy red cherry, red liquorice and raspberry fruits are layered across the delicious palate with ample intensity. Earth, dried herb and spice elements the undercard. Slightly grainy but otherwise polished tannins. Concludes with a long, fresh red fruited finish that’s incredibly savoury.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
Alc. 14%
Other Reviews….
I have called this wine the gateway drug to Mount Pleasant’s wine before, but it is also the wine I would choose to drink most frequently in my home, for this suits almost all cuisines, occasions and allowances. The 2024 incarnation being an early vintage shows some very pretty rose and hibiscus florals. Red cherries, translucent lingonberries and dried red clay. Dusty cumin and mocha spice with some savoury oolong tea tannins across the middle palate. It’s lively as all Mount Henry wines often are and acidity manages to flow fairly evenly making for an addictive little sip. A tad more flesh and grab-able curves to this vintage. Might be a nice wine to show off your beef tartare skills. Drink now or will cellar for another 3-5 years further. Drink 2025-2030.

I could review this in one word: buy. I am a long-time lover of the wines of the Hunter Valley and indeed, especially, of Tyrrell’s and Mount Pleasant. But wow, does this wine have character, and difference, and its own unique take. It has ferrous/blood-like characters, and violet notes, and blueberries, and potpourri, and woodsmoke, and cherries, and mace. It’s fine dining in a bottle. It’s medium in weight at most but there’s enough flavour and texture to hang onto, and the finish is fresh, spicy, mouthwatering and persistent. It has you at hello and you’re still hanging on its every word at goodbye.
