German born Timo Mayer, along with partner Rhonda Ferguson established Mayer in 1999, on the slopes of Mt Toolebewong, between Healesville & Woori Yallock. They produce a small range of hand crafted, single vineyard wines, believing that wines are made in the vineyard and not the winery. All wines are unfined and unfiltered to show the true expression of the vineyard. Vines are often close-planted, winemaking frequently utilises a generous use of whole bunch but most impressive is Timo's cheerful, amusing nature.

Other Reviews....
Here come the hot stepper. Quite the intense and rich flavour profile here, though with good cut and thrust alongside. Magic of Mayer.
Scents and flavours of lemon curd, grapefruit, red apple juice, green mango, a touch of green almond and a big squeeze of lime. Dashes of sea spray and ginger here too. You could say generally there’s lots on here. A suggestion of parmesan cheese funk in the mix too. Slippery texture, some chalkiness to finish. Lots of great concentration and the palate staining length is impressive. A full on style done fully well. Drink 2025 - 2035.

Mike Bennie - The Wine Front

From Hans and Anna Orth's vineyard in Coldstream. Fermented in seasoned hogsheads for six months and three months in stainless. A bright green gold. A touch richer than last year's wine but, interestingly, with more tension, too. Aromas of ripe pear and nectarines together with a gentle nuttiness. The palate is pure fruited and even, finishing saline, nutty and long. Drink by 2030.
