2024 De Bortoli Rutherglen Estate Renaissance Reserve Shiraz Durif
Medium to full in body with juicy black fruits and a tense inky feel.
Dense inky black heart with a deep dark red black hue. Elevated aromas of black cherry and liquorice are joined by some smoky vanillin cedar and peppered earth notes. Medium to full in body, juicy black cherry and liquorice fruits are delivered with ample richness. Sitting underneath are notions of smoky vanillin cedar and peppered earth. Firm, slightly chalky tannins and bright acidity impart a tense inky feel across the medium length conclusion.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.5%
Other Reviews….
Fermented and aged separately before blending; majority of maturation in French oak (90%) and American (10%) with a total of 30% new. First, some air, a decant, a few swishes. Next, bring out the big glasses and pour. Deep, dark purple hues. Inky and concentrated to start. Tannins are firm and a little abrupt and fruit is holding back, but there is a core of solid black berries, cassis, warm spice, leafy stems and earth that will slowly reveal more over time. It's a taut young red with a long life ahead of it. Give it time and a big glass. Drink by 2034.
