2023 Wonderground Chardonnay

A vibrant, elegant Chardonnay with zingy acidity.

Matured for 10 months in seasoned French oak barrels. Brilliant pale straw colour with distinct highlights of green skirting the edges and a watery hue. Pear and nectarine aromas drift from the glass followed by hints of honeysuckle and lemon butter. Vibrant and fresh, the palate features grapefruit, citrus and lime zest flavours. Zingy acidity with some subtle lemon butter and spice scattered across the back half. Finishes lively and elegant.
Drink over the next 2-3 years.

Light straw in the glass with aromas of white peach, nectarine and citrus fruits with a distinct blast of musky fruits and, going out on a limb here, possibly some clone 76 or 809 in play? Regardless, I like it. Hints of clotted cream, soft spice, crushed stone, nougat, marzipan and meadow flowers. Mouth-filling and expressive with a touch of oatmeal and an almost chablis-esque feel to the palate shape as it trails away, hints of mountain herbs coming in at the tail. Drink by 2030.
