2023 Syrahmi Demi Shiraz
The name Syrahmi combines "Syrah," the French word for Shiraz, and "Ami," meaning friend, symbolizing a "friendly Shiraz." Founded in 2004 by former chef Adam Foster, Syrahmi began with a small batch of fruit from Heathcote. Each year, fruit is carefully sourced from different vineyards in the Heathcote region, with the wines named uniquely to reflect each vintage.
The 2023 Demi by Syrahmi is a blend from three Heathcote vineyards—Kennedy’s, Carl Brown, and Humis—with over 70% whole bunch fermentation. Wild yeast and malolactic fermentation took place in open fermenters, with gentle foot and hand plunging. The wine was matured in a mix of new and seasoned French oak for 12 months, followed by 2 months in stainless steel. Deep midnight black dark red colour with a dark red black tinged hue. Sailing through the olfactory senses are alluring scents of dark plum, liquorice and black cherry which are complimented by smoked meats, blueberry, fennel and peppered earth notes. Delicious dark plum, blueberry and liquorice fruits are layered across the mid weighted palate with some smoked meat, clove, fennel and peppered earth characters lying underneath. Nicely fleshed and juicy, it has slightly chalky tannins and finishes medium to long with lots of pepper and spice.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

Other Reviews.....
Demi is all about drinkability on the one hand, but nuance, depth and grace on the other. Engages immediately with blackcurrant, loganberry, black cherry, earthy spices, acacia, briar and a touch of aromatic florals and Aussie bush. Offers a medium-bodied look at Heathcote shiraz from a mild year, laced in lovely spices, flowing in ripe fruit, fine edged in tannin and thoughtful by design. Offers a subtle framework with enduring flavour. Drink by 2033.
