2023 Shaw & Smith Sauvignon Blanc

2023 is the 34th vintage produced of this benchmark Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc. Fruit is sourced from Shaw & Smith’s estate vineyards at Balhannah and Lenswood, complimented by fruit from a small number of highly valued growers.
Brilliant water like colour with a very faint greenish tinge around the edges. Pungent aromas of passionfruit, green apple and lime are complimented by subtle gooseberry and herbaceous grassy notes. Intense passionfruit flavours drive the palate with some green apple, lime and delicate herbaceous characters also chiming in. Dry minerally finish with crisp acidity finishing long and scrumptious.
Drink over the next 1-2 years.

This is only the second 2023 vintage I have tasted in bottle—perhaps not relevant, but it's an indicator that the year is moving on with pace. Leading with juniper and cassis, the 2023 Sauvignon Blanc is fresh and pert, with bright fruit and fine, chalky phenolics. I really like this wine, but then again, everyone in Australia really likes this wine. Every single year it delivers this experience of reliably good drinking. Famous for a reason. 12.% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. Drink 2023-2026.
